Description

The Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield CSA began in 2010 with help from a 3 year grant from Kaiser Permanente. The Chatfield CSA operates as a non-profit. The CSA has quickly grown from 1 acre and 55 shares to its current size of 4.5 acres and 275 shares. Produce is grown following organic practices, but the farm is not certified organic. The program offers 2 distribution sites, one at the York Street Denver Botanic Gardens location and one at the Chatfield site in Littleton. Distributions are set up in a Farmer's Market style which encourages members to pick out their own produce rather than receiving it in a pre-packed box. The program includes approximately 20 weeks of produce from mid June through the end of October. The Chatfield CSA has also partnered with other local producers to offer share add on's that include locally grown fruit, mushrooms, eggs, bread, and locally roasted coffee. Additional produce is donated weekly to community organizations serving the greater Denver area's low income and homeless populations.
