Description

Cranberry Hill Farm is named for the wild cranberry bog that occupies a portion of the farm. Although we do not harvest the cranberries, we encourage their growth to serve as a food source for the ducks that migrate through our area every fall. Our small farm is a diverse grouping of habitats from open hayfield to wooded forest, from riparian to early successional. We are committed to farming in a sustainable manner and feel responsible for stewarding this land for the time we are here. In 2005 we were named a "Heritage Farm" by the New England Heritage Breeds Conservancy due to our interest in raising heritage breeds of livestock and heirloom varieties of vegetables and flowers. In 2007 we helped found the Ashford Farmers Market and served as Market Masters for four years. We harvest hay each June and manage approximately one acre of the farm as a market garden for many varieties of heirloom flowers and vegetables. We also have a small flock of rare Dominique and Buff Orpington hens that we raise for wonderful farm-fresh eggs!
