Description
All Seasons Farm is an aquaponics farm based in Galena, MD. We grow produce and freshwater seafood for our local community. In a nutshell, aquaponics is the marriage of aquaculture and hydroponics. Aquaculture involves raising aquatic organisms. Hydroponics is the process of growing plants using nutrient-rich water, rather than soil. Why aquaponics? Because there are significant benefits to our customers and the environment. At All Seasons Farm, our fresh water fish and prawns are raised inside a modern aquaculture facility and our herbs, vegetables and fruits are grown within a state-of-the-art, insulated greenhouse. We constantly monitor and perfect the living conditions of our organisms, so that local, fresh, healthy food can be enjoyed throughout the year! We are currently GAP (Good Agricultural Practice) certified and practicing organic standards. We are on track to achieve full USDA Organic Certification soon. The water and nutrients our plants use to grow are provided by our aquaculture operation, allowing us to grow without the addition of artificial fertilizers. Our operation wastes far less water than conventional field aquaculture and allows us to grow without exposing the food we produce to any herbicides. We use indoor towers to conserve space and an insulated greenhouse to conserve energy. Our greenhouse has a system of computer-controlled louvers that track the sun during the day and then close at night to conserve heat. Our mission is simple: To produce super healthy food for our community in a sustainable fashion.
