Description
This farm has been in my family since the early 1940s when my grandparents on my father's side bought it. Currently my mother myself and my stepdaughter and brother in law run it. We are located at the edge of the glaciated land in North Eastern Ohio. The soils on the hills are glacial tills and the soils in the valleys are outwash deposits from the glaciated hills and from native rocks that are part of the Pennsylvanian (Upper Carboniferous) rocks of a formation called the Pottsville sequence. We are lucky enough to have 4 streams and numerous springs on our property. My parents bought this farm from my grandparents in 1964. We are raising organically grown produce and herbs. We also raise free range chickens. We raise own pigs and cows too. We use Bantam chickens and Guineas to control insects, they eat bugs and do not eat your plants. We also make own maple syrup from the black maple trees, a variety of sugar maple, that are native to this area.
