Description
I am a vegetable and fruit grower, and keep cattle and honeybees. I am not a certified organic grower but I limit use of chemicals on most of the vegetables by use of tillage, mulch, and crop rotation. I use chemicals such as Bt where useful. The tree fruit do need regular applications of fungicide to combat the effects of this region's humid climate. The angus or angus-cross cattle are pasture-raised only on grass forage with no hormones or antibiotics administered. They are fed grass-alfalfa hay during the late fall and winter grown only by me. I also have beehives for pollination of the fruit and vegetables plants. Nearby heavy woods also provide an ample supply of wildflower and tree nectar for sustaining the bees. Integrated pest management methods are used to deal with the various pests and diseases that have pestered the honeybee lately.
