Description

Fairwind Farm is a constantly evolving patch of the good earth located in Sherkston, Ontario. At Fairwind, we do things the old fashioned way -- we seed, weed, water and harvest by hand. We companion plant, green manure and "cook" our own compost from our livestock's manure and garden wastes. We focus on heirloom and rare varieties, and save our own seed. Our season begins with early greens from unheated hoophouses in April. We offer a wide variety of produce and herbs through the growing season. New for 2012!! Smoked Garlic!! This product has been carefully crafted following 400 year old French traditional methods. The result is a true culinary gem! Available in packages of 2, 4 or 6 ($5.00, $10.00 & $15.00 respectively plus shipping). Also available: Smoked Garlic Salt. Available in 2 oz. jars ($4.00 plus shipping). We are not certified organic but follow organic practices, and firmly believe in the "know your grower" philosophy. We encourage farm visits and are beginning to bring organic ideas to local schools through visiting classrooms and helping kids to start and nurture their own heirloom tomatoes. We believe everyone should have access to healthy, fresh, organically grown produce and regularly donate produce to local soup kitchens and food banks. We recently forged an alliance with our local "Good Food Box" program which will see a percentage of our production dedicated to this program, along with providing workshops to share information on growing, preparing and preserving the harvest. Our produce is available directly from the farm-gate or through our small scale CSA. We are also vendors at both the Port Colborne Farmers' Market (every Friday morning, April - October) and Ridgeway Farmers' Market (every Saturday morning, May - October). Fairwind is a member of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, the Canadian Organic Growers and of the Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario.
