All Year Farm® utilizes multiple growing techniques to grow our crops. We grow many of our crops in the healthy, nutrient soil that mother nature gives Florida. Wait till you taste some of our sweet tomatoes that come right out of the ground. We also use hydroponics and aquaponics. Hydroponics is an incredible medium for growing crops. The vegetables are grown in nutrient water. The nutrients are made up of natural vitamins and minerals that each specific plant needs to grow. Hydroponics allows us for a faster growing season, less space to grow, and its great for the environment. With hydroponics the water is contained in a self circulating system. This means less evaporation of the water and no need for irrigation. And you ask, what about the left over nutrients. We throw it right onto our garden. The left over nutrients from a harvested hydroponic crop contains natural vitamins and minerals that our soil based crops love. Nothing goes to waste. All Year Farm® will begin in 2014 to use a new type of growing technology, Aquaponics! Aquaponics is a self contained, circulating growing system, a lot like hydroponics. However, the major difference is that the nutrients for the plants come from live fish. The fish live in a tank that is controlled just for their preferred conditions. The plants grow either on top of the tank where the roots hang in the water or close by and the water from the fish tank is circulated to the plants back to the fish tank. Just like hydroponics, this system allows for larger, healthier crops in a smaller space, no irrigation, and nothing goes to waste. At All Year Farm®, we love hearing from our customers.
