Description

Burningheart Farm is a small farm which preserves the art of sustainable farming, producing healthy pasture raised lamb, heritage turkey, chicken, and eggs without the use of antibiotics, growth hormones, anthelmintics (de-wormers), pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers. Our lamb and poultry products are raised on pasture everyday, creating the correct omega-3 fatty acid balance in your meat and eggs. The small size of our farm allows us to produce limited quantity with exceptional quality. An important part of our "small and local" model is retailing directly to you. The soil is the foundation of our farm. Our permanent pastures are managed to protect the long term health of the soil, increasing mineralization, and decreasing erosion. Our permanent pasture contains a wide variety of plants, and biological diversity in the soil. It is living soil, rather than the dead soil of land which is subject to tillage and toxic inputs. Much of our pasture contains legumes, such as white clover, which fix nitrogen from the atmosphere into the soil at the root level, providing free and natural fertilization with no excess nitrogen run-off to contaminate surface water. This all results in a higher level of nutrition in the pasture, the animals, and you. We keep a permanent flock of layer hens and sheep, and we breed the lambs here on our farm. Lambs consume only their mother's milk and fresh plants. The poultry eat plenty of plants and insects, reducing the amount of feed needed. We feed certified organic whole grains to the poultry. We feed OMRI listed organic kelp as a vitamin and mineral supplement. Kelp, a sea grass, has the proper balance of minerals necessary for excellent nutrition, and builds soil fertility. Our livestock are treated humanely and have plenty of space, eliminating stress and illness. We participate in the USDA voluntary scrapie flock certification program. These sustainable methods help to promote public health, maintain strong topsoil and produce some of the most nutritious, safe, and delicious food available. We take orders on lamb throughout the year. Please make your order early in the year, as we usually sell out in the spring. You can buy a whole or half share of lamb and it is ready for your pickup in early summer. Heritage turkey orders for Thanksgiving are taken throughout the year, but should be made by March 31 to ensure we will raise one just for you. Chicken is available throughout the year and advance orders are recommended. A 10% discount is available on orders of 10 or more. Eggs are available in the spring, summer and fall. Honey, organic herbs, firewood, wool and more are available on our farm stand seasonally. Most of our products are available for purchase on our website: Burningheartfarm.com. Shipping is available on some purchases. To Your Health! David & Anna
