Description

Recently finished enough of the web site to publish it. We're still working on it and getting the farm fully restored and operational, we are doing everything we can to save and take over a family farm of over 100 years in Athens county Ohio. We are focusing on saving critically endangered heritage breeds of cattle, chickens, pigs, turkey and eventually goats and sheep through eco-friendly and sustainable organic grass fed and pastured methods. We still have yet to decide as to whether or not we will bother to become "certified" organic, but pay close attention to the OEFFA and USDA standards, and adhere to them rigorously. As we understand from talking to people who are and are not certified, it is an expensive bureaucratic process, and much of the time, the standard which we have set for ourselves in our practices appears to exceed the requirements for certification. We feel that personally knowing who raises, how, and where your food comes from is a much better peace of mind than a "certified" sticker could provide. Let us know what you think! We are always looking for volunteers who can contribute time, work or money to help further our efforts, as this is quite an undertaking and with modern industrialized corporate agribusinesses the odds are already stacked against us! Please feel free to contact us with any questions, suggestions, comments, information, or volunteer related matters, as we are eager to expand awareness and momentum for ourselves and our causes. We look forward to meeting and hearing from you! Neil Perin
