Description
C K & S Farms (Glen Krammin Farms) is a fifth generation, sesquicentennial farm located west of the church and school on Durkee and Coats Grove Roads. We grow cash crops in rotation with Nitro Radishes and buckwheat as cover crops (with buckwheat doubling as a bee forage). Our maple syrup is collected from 30 acres of woods. The syrup is made by gathering sap from tapped maple trees in buckets and through lines to a holding tank. The sap is then boiled down. Forty gallons of sap is boiled down to one gallon of syrup. Powder maple sugar is made by further heating. We burn wood to boil the sap. We are just getting back into honey. Our bees can forage on basswood, alfalfa, clover, buckwheat, fruit tree blossoms, and other flowers from the garden, covering about a three mile radius. On about five acres of vegetable garden we grow beans, peas, onions, yellow and green zucchini, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, spinach, Swiss chard, heirloom tomatoes, leeks, sweet and hot peppers, okra, cucumbers, squash, and radishes. In addition to selling at farmers` markets throughout the season, syrup is available by special arrangement all year long. Contact Jean.
