Description

In our fourth season we are mixing it up and trying some new things. We are going to focus on root crops and are creating a Root CSA. These are crops that we grow well, are suited for our soils, and they can store for 3-12 months. I'm still eating potatoes, onions, and garlic, from last year! We're also going to create seasonal employment by paying people to help on the farm with real money, food, and gardening and animal husbandry experience based on the number of CSA shares we sell. They will have multiple opportunities to mulch, plant, weed, and harvest on group work days. On top of that they will be empowered by learning how to grow food and raise animals for themselves and their families. Ages 13+ are welcome to learn more and apply here. http://www.fletchercommunityfarm.com/worksharevolunteer.html We are still committed to growing organically and are still going to grow a large variety, just on a more manageable scale. Vegetables not in the Root CSA will be available at the farmers market, and shared with our helpers. The farm is located in a beautiful spot along the Merrimac River. Here we are committed to producing in a way that is respectful to the natural systems. Our goal is to become a model of sustainability as well as economic viability. We are new farmers, but we are passionate about developing our knowledge and skills through experience, reading, workshops, and talking with experienced farmers. With the support of our community we look forward to continuing to strengthen the local food system. Please call us if you have any questions or would like to set up a time to talk with us and explore our operation.
