Description
Hawthorne Valley Farm (HVF) is a diversified, 900-acre, Demeter-certified Biodynamic and Animal Welfare Approved farm in Harlemville (Ghent), NY, about 35 miles southeast of Albany and just minutes away from the Berkshires in Massachusetts. We are home to 16 acres of vegetable gardens; an on-site certified organic creamery, where we make yogurt, cheese, and quark with milk from our 65-head, grass fed dairy herd; a certified organic bakery, where breads and pastries are baked daily from freshly-ground flour; a full-line natural foods and grocery store; a Community Supported Agriculture program, with 4 site locations (on farm and at three NYC locations); and a Green Market department, which takes our goods weekly to the renowned Union Square Green Market (and Inwood Green Market) in New York City. We also raise broiler chickens, heritage breed pork, and grass fed beef. The farm is at the heart of Hawthorne Valley Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit that promotes social and cultural renewal through agriculture, education, research, and the arts. Other initiatives include Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School, a K-12 independent Waldorf school; a Place-Based Learning Center which includes a Visiting Students Program, and Farm Summer Camp; the Farmscape Ecology Program, which does research on the interaction of agriculture and native species habitats in our region; the Alkion Center for Adult Education which offers Foundation Studies in Anthroposophy and Teacher Training in Waldorf Education and more. The farm is open to the public--visitors are always welcome. For store hours, tour arrangements, Green Market schedules, and more information, please visit our web site. Note: Raw milk is available for purchase on farm at the Farm Store only.
