Description
We grow grain and soy free lamb. Lambs are milk and grass fed alone from birth until the grass runs out in October. We are working towards a fully grass-fed diet but are currently supplementing with squashes and root vegetables in winter while we improve our hay quality. We feel strongly about keeping our meat low in omega-6 and do not even use grain or soy with our pregnant and lactating ewes. We time our lamb births to co-incide with the highest protein levels in spring grass, as the sheep would do naturally in a more temperate climate. Our sheep are a rare heritage breed. Cotswold sheep are listed as "Threatened" by the Livestock Conservancy (http://www.livestockconservancy.org/index.php/heritage/internal/cotswold). Cotswolds are larger than average sheep, providing a better value for your butchering costs, and have a mild flavor. They are a slow growing seasonal breed which makes them an excellent choice for growing out on pasture. Cotswolds also produce long sturdy wool, and we have fleeces available as well. New in 2017, pork and beef also available. Contact us for details. We welcome farm tours by appointment, we want you to be able to feel confident in the way we do things up here on the ridge.
